My writing group's prompt about a lost key in Seattle went totally sideways
We were doing a 15 minute sprint based on a photo of a key in a rain puddle, and my main character, a guy named Leo, just would not follow the plot. I kept trying to make him find the key, but he decided to go get coffee instead. It was a mess, but I just let him go and wrote about the coffee shop. Has anyone else had a character completely hijack a prompt like that?

Leo going for coffee instead of the key is the best thing that could have happened. Did you find that the coffee shop scene showed you something new about his character, or was it just a frustrating detour? Sometimes the wrong turn is the right one.
