My notebook went from blank pages to a full story in just one weekend.

I bought a new notebook on Friday, and it sat empty on my desk. Then I saw a writing prompt online about a person who finds a key that opens any lock but only once. I started scribbling ideas on Saturday morning. By Sunday night, I had written over 5,000 words about a locksmith who finds that key. The difference was just having that one strange idea to kick things off. Has a single prompt ever gotten you to write a whole bunch that fast?

My last prompt was about a detective with a pet cactus. I wrote two pages before realizing I had no plot, just a very prickly sidekick. Sometimes the spark fizzles out fast for me.

Sounds like my usual writing process.

I had a 12 page story die because I forgot to give the villain a motive. @reed.ray, try writing the ending first next time, it gives that cactus detective something to work toward.
