I finally dropped $80 on a beat-up typewriter from a thrift store and now I can't stop writing terrible poetry

My laptop was too distracting with all the internet stuff so I figured a mechanical keyboard with no screen would force some old-school creativity, but instead I just keep hammering out weird rhymes about my cat knocking things off shelves, has anyone else gone retro and just ended up writing garbage?

I mean, maybe the whole point is that forcing yourself to write garbage is actually the path to writing something good later. Those weird rhymes about your cat could be the raw material you need to unlock real creativity, not a sign you're wasting your time. But honestly, dropping $80 on a beat-up typewriter sounds like you bought a problem instead of a solution. You could've just turned off your wifi and used a cheap notebook for way less money. Sounds like you're just romanticizing the struggle instead of actually fixing the distraction issue. Maybe the typewriter is just an expensive excuse to keep writing nonsense instead of addressing why the internet was such a big problem for you in the first place.

Yeah the "romanticizing the struggle" bit hits hard, @lucas63. I spent like two years convincing myself I needed a fountain pen to write good, turns out I just liked the way the ink looked on paper, my writing still sucked.
