Cornered myself with 12 open prompts and no endings, so I tried the 3 question trick
About 2 months ago I pulled up my prompts file and counted 12 half finished scenes, all of them stuck at the same spot, right before anything actually happens. I was at my kitchen table on a Sunday and just sat there staring at 4 docs that each ended mid conversation, no payoff. So I tried something simple, for each one I wrote down three questions: what does this person want right now, what is stopping them, and what do they do about it in the next 10 minutes. Nine of the 12 got unstuck that afternoon, turns out most of them had no goal at all, just mood. The trick is dumb but it forces an ending instead of vibes. Still working through the other 3 though, they might just be bad ideas. Anyone got a trick for telling the difference between a scene that needs fixing and one that just needs to be deleted?
