Appreciation post: That quiet corner in the used bookstore on Elm Street...

I was browsing the creative writing prompts section at that dusty place last weekend and noticed how many prompts were pinned up on a corkboard near the window. People had written ideas on index cards, like 'write a story where the main character can only speak in questions' and someone actually responded to it with a 3-page note. It made me wonder if more libraries or shops should do stuff like that to get writers talking...

There were like 47 different prompts on that corkboard last time I was there, I counted while waiting for my coffee to cool down. Someone had written a story about a time-traveling librarian and stapled it right next to the 'write a ghost story set in a laundromat' card, which I thought was pretty cool.

Oh I heard someone actually wrote a full novel based on one of those laundromat ghost story prompts.

Wait, someone actually wrote a whole novel from one of those prompts? That's wild, I can't believe it actually turned into something that long.
