Oh man, safe is a strong word. We were all just squinting at the load charts and hoping the math we did on a napkin was right. The crane groaned in a way I've never heard before or since. Honestly, the real miracle was that nothing went wrong. We all bought lottery tickets after that job.

Did you at least play the same numbers on all the tickets? (You know, to maximize the universe's potential for irony.) I bet that crane's groan is still echoing in your nightmares, probably right next to the napkin with the bad math on it. Honestly, the only thing separating a miracle from a tragedy in that story is a couple of half-assed pencil marks.
