That time the foreman told me to stop using the tagline for 'real crane work'

Overheard my foreman Dave at the job site near the Port of Baltimore telling a new guy that using a tagline on every lift is just a crutch. Said real operators feel the load through the boom. I get his point about seat time, but I've been running cranes for 11 years and I still grab a tagline for anything over 30 feet or in a crosswind. Why risk a swing that could cost a man his footing? Does your crew treat taglines like training wheels or a safety tool?

Come on, @harper_wells, it's just a tagline - not that deep.

11 years and your foreman is telling someone that taglines are a crutch? That's insane. I've heard some backwards logic on sites but calling a basic safety tool a crutch is a whole new level of stupid. I'd rather look like I'm "training" than explain to some guy's family why he got knocked off a beam.
