Switched from hand signals to a radio system last month and wow

I finally caved and bought a cheap two-way setup after 10 years of flagging everything by hand on this site outside Portland. The difference in pickup speed on the ground is night and day - anyone else make the switch and wonder why they waited so long?

Oh man, I gotta say I see it totally different. I tried radios a few years back and went straight back to hand signals. There's something about the silence on site that keeps me focused, and radios just add a layer of noise I don't need. Plus, when you got a crew of six all talking at once, it gets chaotic fast and important calls get buried. Hand signals might be slower, but they force everyone to pay attention and stay in sync.

Ha, that's funny you say that because I actually had the exact opposite experience with my buddy's crew last summer. We were doing a big deck build and one guy kept yelling "wait wait wait" over the radio every five seconds so nobody could hear the actual important calls lol. Kinda made me appreciate the chaos of hand signals more just because it forces you to actually look at each other instead of zoning out.
