Snapped a cable on a job site in Denver yesterday.
Was lifting a 4 ton AC unit when the auxiliary hoist cable snapped. Had to call the super and wait 2 hours for a replacement rig. Anyone else ever have a cable let go mid lift and how did you handle the aftermath?

Man that sucks, I've had a 3/8 cable pop on me back in '19 lifting a rooftop unit in Phoenix. Right when it went I set the AC down real quick and backed the crane off before anything swung. Honestly the aftermath was just paperwork and a full inspection of every cable on the truck the next morning. The super will probably want a written statement and maybe a safety meeting about pre lift checks. Just be glad it snapped when it did and not when the unit was dangling over someone's head.

Damn straight! I had a similar scare back in '21 with a 2 ton condenser on a hospital job. Cable frayed right at the thimble, heard that pop and my stomach dropped. Set it down on a curb before it even had time to think about swinging. The safety guy made us re-certify every shackle and sling we owned. People talk shit about paperwork but man, that kind of scare makes you grateful for every inspection checklist after.
