Saw a load chart for a 1970s crane and it shook me

Was flipping through an old operator's manual at a yard in Baton Rouge last week. The capacity numbers on those older rigs are way lower than what we run now for the same boom length. Like half in some cases. Guys back then must have been running right on the edge every single pick. Modern computer systems spoils us. Has anyone else looked at an old chart and wondered how they got anything done safely?
