PSA: a 30 year guy on my crew called my swing too jerky and he was right
I used to pride myself on fast swings until a 30 year veteran on a job in Tacoma called my joystick work jerky, and watching my own load footage the next day showed a good 6 inches of sway every stop. Now I ease off sooner and let the load settle, and my cycle times barely changed. Any of you had a guy call out your control like that?
Man that hits close to home. I ran a crane for 12 years before switching to a different outfit and nobody ever told me my stick work was rough until a guy with maybe 25 years in watched me set a beam and just shook his head. Pulled my own footage that night and sure enough the hook was swinging like a pendulum every time I stopped. Took me a couple weeks to break the habit of slamming it into neutral but my loads sit way cleaner now and the ground guys quit backing up every time I move.
