Old timer told me to take a 10-minute coffee break before every pick. What do you think?

I was on a job site in Portland about 6 months ago, working a Grove GMK5250L. This guy, probably 30 years in the game, comes over during a lull and tells me I'm rushing my setup. He said he always takes a full 10 minutes to just sit with his coffee and think through the lift before he even touches the controls. I laughed it off at first, but then I saw him work a tricky pick later that day - clean as can be, no wasted moves. On one hand, I get the point about mental prep, but on the other hand, my foreman would kill me if I took a break that long on a busy day. Has anyone else tried something like this, or is it just old-school nonsense?

Does your foreman actually care about safety or just speed?

Wait @dylan265, did YOUR foreman also act like safety glasses were OPTIONAL?
