Got caught in a sudden wind gust while lifting a beam yesterday. How do you manage unexpected weather changes mid-lift?

Man, sudden wind gust is the worst, we've all been there.

Wait, you weren't watching the weather before that lift? That's asking for trouble. Always check the forecast an hour ahead, not just in the morning. Wind can pick up fast, and even a light breeze can turn bad with a beam in the air. Have a spotter looking for changing conditions, and never hesitate to lower the load. Safety isn't something you gamble with on a job site.

Absolutely right about checking the weather more often. Saw a close call once when a gust hit out of nowhere during a steel lift. Our spotter was watching but the load still turned sideways. Had to drop it fast before it got worse. Now I tell my crew to watch the trees and flags, not just the forecast. You really can't cut corners with this stuff.
