DAE tug the hook latch before each lift? I started after a tip from an old hand.

Actually, saw that tip in a forum thread somewhere. Makes sense to check it's locked, right? Better safe than sorry.

Check the swivel too, not just the latch. Had a hook spin on me once when the load shifted, and the latch popped open from the twist. Now I give it a tug and a quick visual on the whole assembly.

Tugging the latch is a smart move. It only takes a second to make sure everything is secure, and it can prevent a bad accident. I've seen gear fail when people skip that simple check.
