Walked past a salon in Brooklyn that had purple lighting and realized I've been using the wrong bulbs this whole time

I was checking out their window display yesterday and it hit me that cool-toned lighting totally changes how hair color looks, so how do you guys balance salon lighting for accurate color matching without making the space feel like a hospital?

Yeah totally, the purple lighting thing is huge. I've been playing with adjustable color temp LEDs in my own setup lately. You can get bulbs that let you switch between warm and cool with a phone app so you can match the lighting to whatever you're working on. Makes a massive difference for brunettes especially, cool light washes them out but warm makes the red tones pop. I'd say stick with neutral daylight bulbs for the main room and save the colored lights for accent walls or display areas.

@blakem82 warm light doesn't actually add red tones it just shifts the overall color balance, cool light is usually better for seeing true hair color.
