Torn between keratin treatments and natural texture after a consult last week

Had a client come in wanting a keratin smoothing treatment but then her friend said she was "erasing her culture" by straightening her natural curls. I respect the desire for easier morning routines but also get the identity piece. How do you all navigate that conversation when a client asks for something that changes their natural texture?

Whoa, is it really that deep though? I mean it's hair, it grows back. Some people act like getting a perm is a political statement.

And yeah I get what thomasm41 is saying about it not being that deep, but I think it can be both things at once. Like yeah it's just hair and it grows back, but for a lot of people their natural texture is tied to how they see themselves and their family history. The friend coming in and saying she's erasing her culture might be going a little too far, but there's a real conversation there about why someone wants to change their hair. I'd probably ask the client how she feels about her natural curls first, and if she's just tired of the upkeep versus if she feels pressure to look a certain way. That way you can figure out if it's about convenience or something deeper.
