Saw my own balayage in a car window and nearly cried, was I blending wrong for 6 years?
I realized after a client's mom snapped a pic outside in Memphis that my foils were creating harsh lines because I was backcombing too much, but another stylist swears heavy teasing is the only way to get that lived-in look, so which side are you on?
Girl yes, the backcombing thing is so real and nobody talks about it enough! I did the same thing for years because a stylist I trained under drilled it into my head that you HAVE to tease heavy or the blend won't hold. Then I started noticing in every outdoor photo my clients looked like they had stripes, not a soft melt. The teasing was actually making the color sit in chunks instead of fading out nice. Once I backed off and did lighter backcombing with better sectioning, the difference was night and day. So I'm fully on your side, heavy teasing is not the only way and honestly it was hurting my work for way too long.
