Pro tip: Bleaching my own hair took 6 hours and I almost gave up halfway

I kept seeing all these tutorials saying home bleach jobs are easy and take like 2 hours tops. So last Saturday I bought a kit from Ulta and decided to go from dark brown to a platinum blonde. Big mistake. My hair is super thick and past my shoulders so I had to section it into like 8 parts. The bleach processed unevenly on my first try because I was too slow applying it. I ended up having to do a second round on the stubborn spots which added another 3 hours. Then toning took forever because I had to mix two different shades to fix the brassy yellow. By the time I was done it was 10 PM and my scalp was burning. Has anyone else had a home bleach job turn into an all day thing or am I just bad at this?

Watched my friend try this and she ended up with patchy orange chunks that she had to hide under a hat for two weeks. Some things are just better left to the pros.

Oh man, "patchy orange chunks" is exactly the nightmare scenario I've seen play out more times than I can count. The thing is, box dye is basically a gamble every single time because it lifts and deposits color all at once, so your starting color matters way more than people realize. If your hair isn't a perfect blank canvas, that orange is almost guaranteed to show up. I learned the hard way that stripping your hair first with a color remover or going to a pro for a consult saves you a lot of hat-wearing shame. At minimum, do a strand test on a hidden piece before you commit to the whole head. That one step has saved me from some truly tragic outcomes.
