Overheard a client say I looked 'too young' to know what I'm doing lol

I was doing a balayage on a new client yesterday and she was talking to her friend on the phone, said 'she seems nice but she's like 12, hope she doesn't mess my hair up'. I'm 24 and have been licensed for 6 years lmao. Honestly it kinda stung but I just focused on getting her color perfect, and she ended up loving it and booked again for next month. Has anyone else dealt with people judging your skill based on age?

Wow, wait, "she's like 12"?? That's insane! I can't believe someone would say that while you're literally standing right there working on their hair. Like, at least wait until you leave the room if you're gonna talk trash, you know? It's good you kept your cool though, that's way more patient than I would have been. And six years of experience is no joke, that's a solid chunk of time to get really good at what you do. People seriously underestimate how long it takes to master color work, especially balayage. Glad she came around in the end, that must have felt pretty sweet.

24 with 6 years in is actually way more common than people think, lots of stylists start right after high school. The "you look 12" thing is just people being rude without realizing how long it takes to build a solid career in this field. Glad you didn't let it throw you off, sounds like your work did the talking.
