My aunt swore dry shampoo would ruin my color so I stopped using it for a year

My aunt has been doing hair since the 1980s in a little shop outside Portland. She told me dry shampoo would strip out my highlights and make my scalp break out. So for a whole year I avoided it and just washed my hair every other day. Finally I asked my stylist about it and she laughed said dry shampoo is fine if you use it right and brush it through. Has anyone else gotten outdated advice from a relative who works in the field?

Wait, your aunt owns a hair salon and she told you dry shampoo would strip out highlights? That stuff is basically scented cornstarch, it doesn't even have ammonia or bleach in it. I guess she's been doing hair so long she thinks everything short of a blowtorch is gonna destroy your color. My grandma told me not to use purple shampoo because it would turn my hair blue, so I feel your pain with the outdated family advice.

Is it really that serious though? Like worst case your highlights fade a little, it's not like you're bleaching your hair with comet.
