I finally realized I was ruining my shears with the wrong cleaner
For the past six months, I've been using a basic alcohol spray on my $200 shears after every cut, thinking it was fine. Yesterday a client with super fine hair pointed out her ends looked frayed, and my mentor said the alcohol was drying out the blades and making them dull. What do you all use to clean your tools between clients that's actually safe?

My barber buddy swears by a 10-to-1 water and barbicide mix in a spray bottle. He says the blue stuff disinfects without the harsh drying. I switched to that and a microfiber cloth, blades feel smoother.

@haydengreen I was wrong, that mix is a game changer.

Honestly checking if the alcohol is denatured vs isopropyl makes a big difference too (nobody ever mentions that). Denatured has extra chemicals that eat away at the blade coating over time, not just drying them out.
