Hit 500 client chair hours last month and it felt way bigger than I expected

I finally crossed 500 chair hours at the salon where I work in Austin. It took me about 8 months to get there because I only do part time on weekends. I thought hitting that number would just be whatever, but I actually felt like I had real experience under my belt for the first time. Has anyone else had a milestone like that sneak up on them and change how you see your own skills?

Gently correct one thing about that milestone. 500 chair hours is a nice round number but it really depends on how you're counting. Some salons count from when you first clock in, others only count actual time with a client in your chair. I have a friend in Dallas who thought she hit 500 hours but half of it was just standing around waiting for walk-ins. If your salon counts it the way most legit places do, that 500 hours is probably closer to 300-350 actual hands-on client time. Either way it's still a solid achievement for part time weekends, but just something to keep in mind when you're sizing up your real experience level.
