Had three clients back to back cancel on me this morning and then got a walk-in who wanted a full balayage with no appointment

The walk-in ended up being super chill and tipped 40%, so I guess my day went from the worst to the best in like 2 hours, but has anyone else had that kind of wild swing where you want to cry and then you're laughing?

The cancellations stung for sure, but for me the trick was learning to pivot fast instead of dwelling on it. One time I had a whole morning wiped out, so I used the free time to deep clean my station and organize my color swatches, then a last-minute booking walked in and ended up being my highest ticket of the year. Now whenever I get a cancellation I just tell myself it opened up space for something better, even if it doesn't always work out that way. That 40% tip is a solid sign you handled the chaos well, and honestly the mental win of bouncing back is just as valuable as the money sometimes.

Hey, just a quick thing about the whole "worst to best" swing - are you sure it actually went from worst to best? I mean yeah, the tip was amazing and the walk-in was super chill, but three cancellations in one morning is still pretty rough. In my experience, that kind of loss isn't totally fixed by one good client, even with a fat tip. It can feel amazing in the moment, but those empty slots probably cost you more than the tip covered if you think about it. Your mileage may vary, but I'd still take a minute to be honest about the financial hit before you just laugh it off. Not trying to rain on your parade, just saying it's okay to feel both things.
