Finally got a client to trust me with a big color correction after three years
A client came in last week who had box-dyed her hair black over faded red for about two years. She was terrified of damage, but we did a test strand and I mapped out a plan for four sessions. Yesterday, after the second appointment, she looked in the mirror and said, 'I can't believe it's actually lifting.' Anyone else have a good method for managing client expectations on a long-term correction like this?

Glad it's working out but careful with that four session plan. Mapping it out is smart but you gotta leave room for the hair to talk to you. I've seen a lot of corrections stall because the plan was too rigid. Tell her the next step depends entirely on how the hair feels after each wash. That way she knows it's about health, not just a schedule.

Yeah but a solid plan is Key for trust. I get what @drew_grant52 is saying, but my clients feel safer knowing the full road map. It's a balance for sure.

Leave room for the hair to talk to you" is the best way I've heard it put. I tell my clients the plan is a best guess that changes with every visit. That way the roadmap is about the goal, not the exact turns.
