Finally cracked a weird color mixing problem I'd been fighting for months

A client wanted this soft ash blonde but it kept pulling too warm on her... I tried different toners and even a violet additive. Then I remembered a tip from my instructor about using a tiny drop of blue to cancel orange undertones before even applying the toner. I tried it on a test strand and it worked perfectly - the color came out exactly like the inspo photo. Has anyone else had luck using blue instead of purple for certain ash shades?

My daughter tried that Brad Mondo trick on her own hair last month. Let me tell you, it did not turn out like the video at all. Ended up with a little trim and a lot of dye on the bathroom floor.
