A client's offhand comment about my blending technique stuck with me

Last Tuesday a regular told me my shadow roots looked 'too stripey' from the back, and I was mortified because I'd been doing it that way for like 2 years. I switched to a finer slicing method and now I'm double checking every section with a mirror before I finish. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made them completely rework a core service?

hold up though, I gotta say something about the 'stripey' thing. Stripey roots usually mean you're pulling your slices too thick, but fine slicing only fixes it if your angle is right too. If you're still pulling straight out, you'll just get finer stripes that blend worse. Tilt that section more diagonal to the head shape, that's the real game changer. I learned that the hard way after a client told me my melt looked 'patchy' and I spent weeks blaming my color when it was my sectioning the whole time. Also dont forget to feather the edges of each slice with your brush before you lay down the toner, that alone kills most stripe action. but hey, at least you caught it, most people just keep doing the same thing for years and wondering why everyone asks for a different stylist.
