A client told me my hair color was 'too brassy' and I had no idea what she meant

Last Tuesday this woman came in for a touch up on her blonde balayage. She sat down and said the tone was too brassy like it looked orange instead of cool. I had been using the same toner for 6 months and nobody complained. I grabbed a purple shampoo and a different toner and fixed it on the spot but now I am second guessing my whole routine. Have any of you dealt with clients who suddenly change what they want mid appointment?

Ha! Like we're mind readers now. I had a client once say her balayage looked "too lived in" and I asked if she meant more sunkissed or more ratty. She just stared at me. Turns out she wanted beach vibes but not "I haven't showered in a week" vibes. Hard to guess that one.

Oh man, is that when they just say the word "brassy" and suddenly you're questioning everything you thought you knew about toner? I had a client last fall tell me her highlights were "too ashy" and I literally froze because I thought that was the whole point of what she booked.
