Why is everyone skipping the pre-pour checklist on flatwork?

Honestly I keep seeing crews pour driveways and sidewalks without checking subgrade compaction first. We had a 1,200 square foot slab in Austin settle 2 inches in the corner because someone skipped the plate compactor pass. It cost the company $8k to saw cut and mudjack that mess, plus the client was livid. I know it adds 30 minutes per pour, but is that really worth the risk of callbacks? Has anyone else dealt with lazy compaction on residential jobs and how do you push back without starting a fight?
