Watching a framing crew in Austin made me rethink my whole approach to scheduling

Last month I was checking on a project in Austin and saw a framing crew finish a whole wall section in like 45 minutes because they had their materials staged at the exact right spots before starting. I spent three years thinking speed was about working faster, but it's really about cutting out the walking and searching. Has anyone else noticed a huge gap between how you plan the job vs how the crew actually moves around?

Man you nailed it. I saw the same thing on a job in San Antonio last spring. The lead carpenter had all the studs, plates, and hardware stacked right where each wall would go before the guys even showed up. They finished a 40 foot wall in under an hour while my crew was still walking back and forth to the pile. I spent years telling my guys to hustle but the real fix was just having everything within arm's reach. Now I make sure materials are staged by section before anyone picks up a hammer. It feels stupid simple but the time savings are huge.
