Talking to an old foreman made me rethink my whole scheduling approach

Was on a job site last Tuesday in Nashville. Old foreman named Roy watched me lining up subs back to back. He said 'you're gonna burn everyone out by lunch and have nobody for afternoon pours.' He was right. I always thought tight schedules showed I was on top of things. Now I'm adding buffer time between trades to see if it cuts down on callbacks. Anyone else run into this?

Used to run my jobs the same way. Tightest schedule on the board meant I was the guy getting it done. Then a buddy of mine ran a crew on a big slab and watched his guys start making dumb mistakes around hour six. That's when it clicked for me. Roy's absolutely right about burning your crew out before the hard part even starts.
