Site super on our Des Moines job missed a 4 inch gas line mark and we shut down half the block for 6 hours
Last Tuesday around 8am the excavator hit an unmarked 4 inch gas line on the Franklin Ave job and the fire department cleared the whole block. Turns out the utility locate ticket was 11 days old, which is past the legal window here, and nobody on our side checked the date before digging. We sat on our hands for 6 hours while the gas crew capped it, and the GC is now staring at a bill north of $12,000 between the standby time and the crew we sent home. Simple fix would have been a 2 minute call to re-ticket the locates the day before we broke ground. How are you all handling locate expirations on your jobs, do you keep a log or just trust the ticket?
