Old foreman told me to stop using putty knives for drywall and he was dead right

Last Tuesday I was still scraping tape joints with a 6 inch putty knife like I always did. My foreman Mike walked over and said that thing is just making a mess, grab a 10 inch taping knife instead. I figured he was just being picky but I tried it on the next room. The mud went on way smoother and I cut my finishing time by almost an hour on that 12x14 bedroom. Has anyone else had luck switching to a wider knife for taping?

Your buddy Dave ever try that switch? My coworker's brother Bill was fighting with a 6 inch putty knife for years on his own house. His neighbor came over one Saturday and handed him a 10 inch taping knife and told him to shut up and try it. Bill said it felt weird at first like holding a little surfboard. But by the time he finished his living room he was mad he wasted so much time on the old way. He told me the mud just lays down flat with no comb marks and he actually enjoyed taping for once.
