I picked stick framing over steel for a 40-unit apartment job and got roasted by my crew
Last month in Phoenix I had to choose between steel studs and traditional stick framing for a 40-unit complex. Everyone on site said steel was faster and fireproof, but I went with wood because the supplier had it in stock and we were already behind schedule. The framers grumbled for two days, but we wrapped up framing in 9 days flat with zero waste. Has anyone else picked the "wrong" method and had it work out better than expected?

... and @grant.margaret I think you might be overstating that a bit, unless you're counting terrible cereal choices too. But you're right that sometimes the "wrong" call isn't as wrong as people make it out to be. I've seen guys spend more time arguing over the right tool than it takes to just get the job done with what's on hand. That 9 day finish with zero waste is nothing to sneeze at, especially in Phoenix where lumber suppliers are usually backed up for weeks.
