Well that was a disaster - my driveway pour cracked like crazy on Tuesday

I poured a 12x20 slab for a driveway repair in Medford last week. Used the same mix I always do, kept it wet for two days with burlap, but it still cracked in three places by Friday. I think I made a mistake with the control joints - I put them at 8 feet apart instead of the usual 6. Has anyone else had trouble with longer joint spacing on garages or driveways? I'm wondering if I need to switch to a fiber mesh mix for next time.

lol 8 foot joints on a driveway slab. thats like asking for trouble man. i learned that one the hard way on a customers garage a few years back, had cracks running all the way from the house side to the apron. you basically gave the concrete no reason to crack where you wanted it to, so it just did whatever it felt like. fiber mesh helps keep things from spiderwebbing but it aint gonna fix bad joint spacing.

Man that is rough... so did you end up having to rip it out and start over or did the homeowner just live with the cracks? I've seen guys try to hide them with a saw cut after the fact but it never looks right. What was your joint spacing on that job?
