Wasted $150 on a pump that couldn't handle 3/4 stone

Got a rental pump last month for a small backyard pad in Tucson, figured the price was right and saved me a day of wheelbarrowing. Took me an hour of rerouting hoses and talking to the rental guy before I realized the pump specs were way under what a 3/4 mix needs. Lost the rental fee plus most of the morning chipping out a clogged line. Anyone else have a go-to way to check pump capacity before you book one, or do you just always size up one model?
