Tried sealing a driveway in Wichita with a squeegee instead of a roller and now I get to do it twice
So last Saturday I took a side job sealing a driveway out in Wichita, about 900 square feet of old asphalt that was thirsty as hell. I usually roll everything, but my roller frame broke that morning and the closest supply house was closed, so I grabbed a big 24 inch squeegee out of the truck and figured, how bad can it be. The first pass actually looked great, nice and even, and I was feeling pretty good about myself. Then the sun came up over the trees and within 20 minutes the whole thing started flashing on me, and I could see squeegee lines and thin spots everywhere. Two coats later it still looked patchy in the low spots because I was pushing material around instead of laying it down even. Client comes out, walks it, says nothing, just gives me that look, you know the one. Now I'm eating the cost of 10 more buckets and going back Sunday to redo the whole thing with a proper roller. Anybody got a trick for keeping the squeegee lines out, or do I just accept that rollers are the only way on big flat pours?
