The day I found out I was mixing water wrong for 8 years

I was on a job with this old timer from Tulsa, pouring a 40 by 60 slab for a carport. He watched me dump a bucket of water into the mixer and just shook his head. Said I was adding it all at once instead of in stages, which was making the mix inconsistent near the bottom. I argued with him for a bit, but he made me dump that batch and try it his way. The finish came out way smoother, and now I wonder how many floors I screwed up doing it the other way. Anyone else have a basic habit you swore was fine until someone called you out?

Did you try wetting the forms before pouring? That helped me a ton after I started doing it, kept the edges from drying out too fast.

Oh man, my buddy tried that once and it actually warped his whole mold because the wood swelled up too much.
