That $600 concrete curing blanket I thought was a waste of money

I was pouring a garage slab in mid-October here in Minnesota and the forecast kept dropping. I bit the bullet and bought a heated curing blanket from the supply house for $600. First night the temp hit 28 degrees and that blanket kept the concrete at a solid 50 degrees. No cracks, no cold joints, no delayed finishing. My buddy tried the same pour without one and his slab looked like a spiderweb after a week. Has anyone else used these on smaller residential jobs instead of just big commercial?

I read a contractor's blog a while back where he said the first time he used a curing blanket on a small slab he felt like he was "cheating" compared to the old days. Your story about the spiderweb slab from your buddy is exactly what makes that $600 worth it. I did a walkway here in Wisconsin last November and the blanket paid for itself on that one pour alone, especially with how much it cut down on finishing time.

Ha! Totally agree man, I poured a patio in November and that blanket was a lifesaver, no regrets at all.
