Talking to a retired finisher in Omaha about his old magnesium floats
He said they'd get so smooth from use they felt like glass, and you just can't buy that kind of patina. Makes me wonder what other old-school tools we've lost the feel for.

Ever notice how new stuff feels kind of dead compared to things that have been broken in by a person? Like a stiff leather jacket versus one that's been worn for years... that perfect fit and feel only comes from real use.

Yeah but does that mean we should avoid new things? Or is the breaking in process part of what makes it good?
