Shoutout to the crew that finished a 12,000 sq ft slab in one pour last month

Last month in Boise, we had this massive warehouse floor job. The GC wanted it all done in a single pour, which is a huge debate in my book. On one side, you get a seamless finish with no cold joints, which is great for a big open space. But on the other, you're racing against the clock with a huge crew, and if your timing is off even a little, the whole thing can set up wrong. We had three power trowels and eight guys, and I swear we were running by the end. It came out smooth, but I've also seen jobs where splitting it into two pours gave way more control over the finish. What's the general take here for a slab that size? Is the single-pour gamble worth the stress?

A concrete foreman I know swears by single pours for big floors, but he always brings in a second finishing crew on standby. His rule is you need a fresh team to jump in when the first crew hits the wall, otherwise the finish gets away from you.

Honestly that "finish gets away from you" thing is so real, @tessa868. A buddy's crew lost a whole warehouse slab last year because they didn't have backup and it set up too fast.
