My kid asked me why we don't use wooden floats anymore

I was showing him some old tools in my garage and he pointed to a worn-out wood float. I told him we mostly use magnesium now because it's lighter and doesn't warp. He just said 'but the wood looks nicer,' and honestly, it made me miss the feel of breaking in a new one. What's your favorite old tool you still keep around?

That's a great story about your kid! My old hand-crank drill is my favorite. It's slower than my cordless one, but something about the rhythm and the sound just feels right for certain jobs. I keep it oiled and hanging on the pegboard, more for the memories than anything else.

Got to disagree a bit with @the_jake on this one. That old drill sounds nice, but for me, the cordless is just better. It's not just about speed. Try holding a hand drill over your head to fix a ceiling. Your arm gives out. The battery one lets you get the job done without turning it into a workout. Sometimes the right tool is the one that doesn't fight you.
