I finally had a slab crack on me mid-pour last Tuesday in Houston
We were finishing a 30x40 garage floor when a hot spot in the mix started setting up way too fast. Ended up having to stop, wet it down, and wait 10 minutes before we could keep going. Has anyone else dealt with a load that just didn't cooperate like that?

A buddy of mine had a similar thing happen on a driveway pour down in San Antonio last summer. He was about halfway done when the mix started turning into quickcrete right in the truck, just stiff and goopy. They had to dump half the load in a ditch and call for a fresh batch, which killed his profit for the day. The ready mix plant swore it was fine when it left, but something clearly went wrong on the road or with the water. He ended up having to grind out a weird seam where the two pours met and it still looked rough. Hot weather and concrete just do not get along sometimes, especially when the batch plant rushes a load out.

Was it really that bad though? Hot concrete sets faster but sounds like maybe they just let it sit too long or messed with the water at the site.
