Floated a slab with a trowel machine in 90 degree heat and got cold joints anyway
This week I did a 40x60 shop pad south of Tulsa with only two guys. We poured at 11am thinking we had time since we planned to use a power trowel. But by the time we finished the second load the first section was already setting up. I thought running the machine early would help level it out. Instead it just pushed the soft spots around and left ugly lines where the new concrete met the old. The driver even said 'you guys are gonna fight that sun' right before he dumped. Shoulda waited for a cloudy day or paid for an extra finisher. How do you handle big pours in summer without blowing the crew out? Mix retarder ever made a real difference for you or just delayed the pain?
