Can we talk about how nobody teaches bull floating right anymore?
Saw a young crew try to use a 2x4 to bull float a slab in Phoenix last week, and it reminded me of when my old foreman made me practice the arch for 3 straight summers. Anyone else notice new guys skipping the basics or is it just me?

My grandpa taught me the heel-toe walk on a slab in Tucson back in 98 and I still do it exactly like that every time. Practicing that arch on a hot driveway until your back hurt is the only way to learn why a real bull float matters. Nobody wants to spend the time on it now but that 2x4 trick will leave you grinding out high spots forever.

My buddy Mike tried that 2x4 shortcut on a driveway in Mesa last summer and ended up with so many low spots the homeowner's truck almost bottomed out driving up the apron. He spent the next two days grinding and patching, said he'd never skip the real float again.
