Wasted $150 on a cheap thermal paste applicator kit that just smeared everywhere

Bought one of those little stencil tools and a syringe of paste off Amazon for $50 and after three builds it's just a gummy mess that leaves air bubbles, anyone else just stick to the pea method and a card?

Man I feel your pain, I bought one of those fancy kits too and it was just a nightmare. The paste got all crusty in the syringe after a couple months and the stencil left these weird ridges that I had to smooth out anyway. I've gone back to the pea method with a plastic card, just a tiny dot in the middle and let the cooler press it down, never had issues with temps or air bubbles since. Those applicator tools just seem to make a simple job way more complicated than it needs to be.

Yeah, same here. I tried that whole spreading thing with a tool once and just made a mess. Pea method is honestly all you need, never had a single issue with it.
