Walked into a client's office in Tacoma and their server rack looked like a spaghetti monster's nest

They had 40+ unlabeled cables just looped and tangled, which explains why their network drops kept failing. How do you even start fixing that without causing a full outage?

Honestly you gotta start by mapping one connection at a time with a toner and label gun. Tbh it's a slow process but trying to fix it all at once is how you cause that outage. Just accept it's gonna be a long, annoying day.

Yeah, what's the right way to handle that without making a bigger mess? I used to be one of those guys who thought you could just untangle it all in one go, like ripping off a band-aid. But a few years back I helped a buddy with a setup just like this and we tried that. Bad move. We ended up taking half the office offline for almost two hours because we couldn't figure out which cable went where. Now I'm all about the slow and steady method with a toner and label gun too. It's boring as hell but it actually works without causing a panic. You just gotta accept it's gonna be a full day of crawling around and swearing under your breath.

Ugh, we just redid one port at a time.
