The tip that killed my motherboard in under an hour

A guy in an old forum thread said to use a pencil eraser to clean RAM contacts. Tried it on a Dell Optiplex 9010 I was fixing last Tuesday. The eraser left rubber dust all over the slot and the board wouldn't post no matter what I did. Ended up replacing the whole motherboard for $65. Anyone else ever follow bad cleaning advice and regret it?

Using a pink eraser on a GPU once left so much gunk I had to buy a can of air.

Ugh right?? Pink erasers are basically rubber cement in disguise. I swear they melt into this weird sticky paste that gets into every tiny crack. Pro tip though, a soft pencil eraser (the white kind) works way better for GPU contacts, doesn't leave that nasty residue. But yeah, live and learn I guess. Hope that canned air did the trick for you, that stuff is like magic for deep cleaning.
