That $50 thermal paste kit was a total scam
Bought a fancy thermal paste kit off Amazon for $50 last month, thought it would drop my CPU temps by 10 degrees. Ended up being repackaged toothpaste basically, had to scrub my chip with alcohol for an hour. Anyone else get burned by overpriced thermal paste?

...and I fell for the exact same thing. Bought that brand that shows up first on Amazon with like five thousand reviews. It literally looked and smelled like mint toothpaste when I squeezed it out. My temps went up two degrees if anything. Had to order some Arctic MX-4 for eight bucks and it actually works fine.

Nah, I gotta push back a little here @parkernelson. That "looked and smelled like mint toothpaste" thing is funny, but MX-4 is basically just middle of the road. I've used it and yeah, it's fine for a stock CPU or whatever. But calling it "works fine" while trashing a no-name brand seems backwards to me. I've pulled off MX-4 that was a year old and it was crusty as hell, thermal paste dried out worse than toothpaste left with the cap off. If you really want to drop temps, grab something like Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut instead of settling for "fine." Those cheap Amazon brands are a gamble, sure, but MX-4 ain't the savior either.
