Just realized how much I undervalued good documentation at my last job

I was talking to a senior tech at a repair shop in Austin last week. He said his whole workflow relies on a notebook he's kept for 7 years with every weird error code and fix. It hit different because I used to think remembering everything was a flex. Now I'm starting my own logbook. Any other techs here keep physical notes or is it all digital for you?

That notebook system sounds way more reliable than trying to pull random error codes from memory. Getting a physical log started now will save you a ton of headaches later.

Actually, a lot of newer PCs have a dedicated log file that the system writes error codes to automatically. You can pull it up from the Event Viewer without ever touching a notebook (though I still keep one for quick notes, it's not the main source).
