Hit 500 successful hard drive recoveries last week and it surprised me

I kept a log since 2018 when I started doing this out of my garage in Columbus. Last Friday I was updating my records and realized I had passed 500 recoveries without even noticing. Most were simple cases like corrupted file tables or failed firmware, but about 40 were physically damaged drives with clicking heads. Has anyone else kept a running count of their work? It puts things in perspective.

Tracking my numbers really helped me see how far I'd come too even when it felt like I was just spinning my wheels. It also made it easier to notice patterns in what types of failures kept showing up, so I could prepare better for the next one. That 500 mark is super impressive, especially with those physically damaged drives, those are always the toughest to deal with.

Yeah tracking really changed the game for me too. I started keeping a simple log on my phone of when things went wrong and what the cause was, turned out I was having way more software issues than I thought. Once I saw the pattern I could set up auto checks for those specific things before they became big problems. Physical stuff like bad sectors or drive damage I learned to catch early by listening for clicks or weird sounds during backups. That 500 mark is no joke though, especially when you're dealing with hardware that's basically begging to give up lol.
